Is it worth it to buy Caravan

Dear Caravan drivers,

I have heard so many problems with the Dodge Caravan.
But still i like it very much, plus they are nicely priced too coupled with good looks.

I was wondering, is it worth buying a Dodge Caravan ?
I can get one 2000 for about $6500 with 100k on it.
Dont know the history, but the owner said he has taken good care of the car.

If you guys/gals can tell me of any checks i should do to check the van.
You feed back will be highly appreciated

Thanks for readin the post

check the underside first. leaks, corrosion, rust.

Check the fuel lines, mufflers, pipes..... and start from there.

Tires and the shocks, tie roads, cv boots, etc....

I hear the transmissions are only good for around 100,000 miles. My 1998 2.4L has 148,000 on the original transmission, so I don't know if that's really true. Of course I have the 3 speed, which may be mre reliable than the 4 speed.

My 1996 Caravan has 235,000 km, driven in normal Canadian weather ... which is not easy on cars!

I'm very satisfied but I did have a few problems :

- Changed the transmission at 130,000 km;
- Power steering pump had to be changed at 200,000 km;
- Some electrical problems with the heater fan and backup lights;
- Some rust at the bottom : if you live up north, better shoot it with oil.

Otherwise, it is a very comfortable van and it will last if maintained regularly.

caravan transmissions

I had a 1990 Caravan that had its transmission go out to lunch last week for the secound time. The first time was at 98,000 miles and the secound time was at 163,000 miles. I junked the car. Then my wifes 1994 Town and Country trans blew out 2 days ago. It had 127,000 miles on it.
2 Chrysler Transmissions go bad with in the same week. OUCH . We fixed hers to the tune of 1200 bucks and I got a GMC Suburban.
Both vans where taken car of and serviced at the right times.

Re: Is it worth it to buy Caravan

my 1991 Plymouth Voyager is still going.....at 285,000K with nothing but a change of mufflers, engine oil, tranny oil service and the tires in its days. So I am quite happy with it except for the A/C. Seems to be getting old and weak.
