interferance motor?
is my ZC an interferance motor? the reason i ask is cuz my timing belt slipped quite a bit tonight again. more then the last time. the car still ran ok except it sounded like it was only on 3 cylinders and it kept trying to shut off on me on my way home (i was about 5 mins from my place) so i just drove it home. do u guys think it mashed any valves???

Re: interferance motor?
You would know it if you hit valves on the pistons, its audible. Do you have a cheap aftermarket adjustable cam gear?

the tensioner is tight, theres no slack in the belt and it keeps skipping teeth

Re: interferance motor?
yes the engine is interference. I'd say there is a chance the piston hit the valves. set your engine back at TDC and then do a compression check. If a cylinder comes up low, or multiple cylinders come up low, chances are you have a bent valve.
As far as the issue of skipping teeth.. it could be a number of things. you could have a defective tensioner that isnt holding tension. I would also check the distributor, as i have heard of ZC's having problems of the distributor locking up or being very hard to turn and this in turn holds up the intake cam and the belt will slip on the cam gear. remove your timing cover and crank pulley and inspect the lower timing gear and water pump gear to make sure they are not damaged. |
