i hear the '95 is the best for power to weight ratio.
(see 'weight/Torque King' thread in "car comparisons") it's still a heavy car, but not as heavy as many! |

the 99' was a good year since you can find a "SE Special Edition" with trim upgrades and special features to that year. The manual equipped one was the most fun. i would stay away from the 95' since they had engine control problems with the computer and gov't required exhaust sensors. I personally owned a 98' Maxima SE with the manual, Super-Black. I found that it was a blast to drive, fast, and reliable. In the 3 yrs I leased it I never had an once of trouble.

95's aren't hindered by OBD-II emissions standards and take better to modifications as a result of it. 95's are the fastest 4th gens with the most potential.

Re: What Year Maxima Should I Get???? Please Help!!!!
95/96 have the largest aftermarket support. All 4th gens came with the VQ30 engine which will run for 200K miles or more with proper maintenance. 98/99 manual transmissions had issue with the bearings as Nissan's shim was improperly sized, causing prematurely failure. Also, the 99s had coilpack issues. Personally, I'd get a 95, do a front and rear conversion to the 97, and mod the hell out of it. Also, you can get the new 3.5L VQs in the 4th gens with a good bit of work.
