As I'm waiting for an answer to my Air/fuel Ratio Gauge thread, I thought about adding this thread...Thought it'd be kind of cool to see how everyone races/drives their DSM's and what techniques they use...Some people might even find this helpful once people start posting their techniques...
Here are my techniques and the way i drive my GST Spyder. * When racing from a complete stop... Rev the hell out of the car (usually don't let it go above 6k) just to let the other person know I'm running boost and because I heared it's better to rev a little before a drag. Put it in 1st (obviously), let up on the clutch a little just before it starts to grab, rev to approximately 3,400rpm's, dump the clutch and mash the gas at the same time. I NEVER get wheel hop anymore (unless it's wet outside) ever since i put those upgraded poly urethane motor mounts in. They actually help a lot. I do spin a little tire but not much at all, they grab and go quite well for being cheap tires.* Regular driving... Meaning not beating on the car...Shift smoothly, relaxed and wishing I was listening to music (yeah someone stole my Pioneer CD Player )...I usually heel-toe every downshift and I usually don't let the RPM's go above 4,000 when I downshift. I usually never shift into 5th unless I'm doing around 50 - 55 because there's just no power really. I notice that a lot of people don't ever downshift. The reason I do it is to save on a little gas (since I'm always on empty) and to save on brakes a bit. And I heel-toe it so not as much stress is added to the car and for smoother downshifts.* Beating on it... Beat the balls off of it. Yeah I usually do this when my girlfriend pisses me off. Slam gears, weave in and out of traffic, pass people on the shoulder and drive straight down Left-turn lanes passing up everyone, and wishing I was listening to the 'Pissed off type of music' or 'Orbital - Halcyon And On And On (theme from the movie Hackers) to relax me, but I realize my CD player has been stolen and I beat on it even harder...Redline is usually seen a lot when I beat on it lol. Then when I slow it down, I drive it straight into my garage and rip everything apart to make sure nothing broke lol. * Driving it off of a cliff... Thought about doing this one for a long time now...Maybe I'll just get pissed off enough one day to do it. Anyone do this one yet and live to tell about it? hehe ![]() Hopefully a lot of people will post their techniques for informational purposes...Happy driving and be safe! |

Re: Driving techniques
my driving technique is :
money saver: shifting every 2,500 rpm to conserve gas.. i spend at least 40 bucks a week to get to school then home... my school only 7 miles away. normal: shifting every 3,500 rpm just to cut people off and to show off =) mad/rush: shifting every 5,000 rpm (except on 1st gear) and go into the divider lane (yellow lane) and just pass every1

The Flinstone: Cut a hole in the floor and instead of starting your car and using expensive gas just put it in neutral put the ignition switch to On and flinstone it to school.

Re: Driving techniques
I begin with a ricer flyby with my ESi, revving as I flyby, pounding my system. When we take off from the line, I shift, make a duck face, and yell "WHOOSH!!" as loud as I can, so people think I'm packing a turbo.
LMAO. Just kidding. I love my car.

normal- smooth shifts and near perfect (sometimes not) clutch release, radionot very loud, windows down
need for speed- windows down, radio blasting, headlights on, clutch in and rev a little before i shift and continously scan the area for cops!! girls in the car- windows down, radio pretty quiet (girls talk alot, heh), make ABSOLUTELY sure my shifts are smooth as hell (they dont like bad driving either, lol) and i usually keep within the speed limit, but thats not fun but atleast the gals are there

Re: Driving techniques
Oh yeah,forgot about the girls.
Girls: Underbodies on, lights on, inside neons on, radio thumping, not loud tho. Shift regular, but keep it in 3000RPM. Just incase I decide I want to show off, floor it, and be gone!! Windows are down, just to show off my "merchindise." Radar always on. Racing: Pretty much the same as wit the chicks. Regular: Usually slow shifts, about 2500. Nothing special. If later at nite/evening, then I might speed. Other than that, just swerving in and out.

Re: Driving techniques
LOL... great idea for a thread!
hmmm... most people tell me i drive insane regularly, but i just think they don't understand how complicated driving a raced out turbo car is... on launching: try to hold about 3500 RPM and drop clutch about 3/4 way with a teeny slip so that it is a very clean acceleration. i would guess it is full out by 3/4 of the way thru 1st [happens pretty quick] on regular driving: 1 word, LAZY. nothing that would waste too much gas ![]() on chicks: fear makes chicks wet and BOV's sound like the coolest thing.on ricers: nothing cures a case of rice-itis like a BOV in the ear, which is nice in DSM's cuz it is already over there. on street racing: nothing is like a sneaky 2nd gear pull. on cops: if you see them upshift so your noise signature is reduced. if they are behind you with thier lights on, be cool and take your speeding ticket like a man. if you are a dick, i'm sure there are many other things they can write you up for. on downshifting: ALWAYS give it a rev to match the gear you are entering. refered to as heel-toe as well. shifting is smoother and you can reduce the stresses on your engine. always good. on bumping: try to get all the vibrations out of your ride. you may be loud, but if it sounds like you have a box full of crickets attatched to your sub you are going to get laughed at ![]() on DSM knowledge: you will learn more about general automotive knowledge tuning a DSM than most anything else. now proceed to tell honduh guy's why we can boost 20psi and they can only boost 8psi ![]() on NOS: it's better going to your head than your intake ![]() that's all i can come up with for now... lol |
