Need to be pushed in the right direction

So here's the deal, I need help in a decision, Turbo d16z6 with OBD-1 conversion or buy a B16a and later swap the bottom end for a GSR or CRV block. I can get the d16z6 motor for $250 and turbo kit from a friend for $500. Or the usual cost of a B16a swap.

Re: Need to be pushed in the right direction

i voted b16a swap because theres more potential, since you can save up and buy a bigger shortblock; and maybe turbo that and make more power then you ever can over the d16.

B16 if you're planning on eventually using the head later on. Otherwise I'd say go turbo D all the way.

Re: Need to be pushed in the right direction

turbo'd d16z6 but my answer was cause thats what I got. I would do the same thing if I started all over again. The money was well worth it and the b16s around here are like d15 dpfi with the Z6 easy as hell to beat. Even funnier than that is that there are 2 GSRs around the corner and they cant even come close.

Ok here is another ex. There was a WRX on the freeway we both slowed down and exchanged info on what we had. He had a aftermarket intercooler and running 15psi. Im running a stock Greddy kit no intercooler but motor is built for turbo low com pistons, b16 rods, stock clutch, and Im still running 5 psi. We start off at 40mph on the freeway Im with him till 3rd where he gets up about a half a car lenth and stays there till he hits his MPH limter my car shows 120mph when he shuts down. So a Z6 turbo's has lots of potential.

I'd agree with a turbo single cam handing it to mild NA b series. the problem im seeing here is that a low compression single cam with a greddy kit running 5psi would be pushing it to say it has 175hp at the crank. I ran 10psi on my mini-me and i handed it to many b series, but i belive it would've been a different story @ 5psi. I was running a bigger turbo than you, intercooled, with a .455 lift cam

and as far as the WRX..i dont belive it.

now to the topic at hand...
If you have alot of money to spend, get the b16. I know first hand that b series parts are over double what it costs to build a d series. You could completely build a d series block and turbo it 15-20psi for probably less than what it cost to piece together a turbo kit and a b series swap. its true though that end the end, a b series has more potential.. it just takes a bigger wallet. A lot bigger..

Re: Need to be pushed in the right direction

if you wanna save money - go D
if you wanna spend lots of money and have more power in the end - go B

yeah I don't know about that either man. But maybe the guy was a really shitty driver. I know 2 guys with wrx's with some upgrades and those things are fast, hell they're fast stock. My buddy beat a '99 Pontiac Firehawk (w/N2O) in his wrx with just an upgraded computer, and exhaust and only running 11lbs. And those Firehawks (limited edition firebirds) are no joke with around 300hp stock and then add spray. I'm not saying you're lying, just saying that you must be a hell of a lot better driver than the other guy was.

Re: Need to be pushed in the right direction

Ok heres the deal if I was lying I would have beat the wrx figure that shit out. As far as being a good driver hmmm dont think so just shift quick and when your car starts to lose its horse power. Ok heres the deal forget what I said and if the I get a chance to come up against another WRX and have my camera (have it all the time now THANKS GTA) Ill get some video. Also how would have I know what he shut down at if I was not right next to him. BAH forget it

Josh95cx Sorry bro we high jacked your thread your not getting a good turn out on the poll its 50/50 right now. I wish I could help you make your mind up with what you want. Do some searches on the net for B16s and you will find lots of info also do a search on d16. You should be able to pull enough info there to be able to make up your mind. Searching is what I did and I came up with what I have now, cause D16Z6s are cheap enough to just though another one in. So there ya got what I got to say. OUTY
