Need new tranny oil?
Lately my Z have been running pretty rough, the idle is fine and all but when I start to drive it, it's rough. 5-10 minutes later after driving it drives smooth as usual. Would this mean I have to buy some MT-90?

Please be alittle more discriptive. I'm somewhat confused when you ask about tranny fluid and then say it runs rough.

Re: Need new tranny oil?
Rough....hmmm, I can never put it in gear that I usually do...such as I usually ride 40-50 mph in 4th gear but in the morning or cold starts I have to put it in 3rd so it doesn't feel rough (car vibrating, shaking, like im driving over a dirt road but not as bad). The tires are fine and properly pressured with air. I'm hoping it's just a simple tranny oil change it needs but I don't know. Do tranny oil heat up and get less thick while you drive? Like motor oil? I was thinking it was something like that. I thought it could have been my spark plugs being worn out but that doesn't explain why it would even out later and run perfectly fine.
Each gear depends on how rough the car will run, 1st and 2nd gear runs closest to smooth, then 3-5th gear is stressing the car kinda, like it's working pretty hard. Sorry, I really don't know how to explain this. |

Re: Need new tranny oil?
it could be your fuel injectors or something like that, it sounds about the same symptoms i have. do you have any power while it is doing this?

if your car slides into all the gears fine it probably doesnt have anything to do with tranny fluid...
i would try and run some fuel injector cleaner through it. check/change the plugs. check/change air filter. sounds kinda like a misfire at low RPM's. probably something to with with fuel. also, you might want to change your fuel filter. check the fuel pump. could be a number of different things...i would start with basic things though. i have a write-up on probable causes on the z32. ill try and find it. EDIT: here is one of a few i have. http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/hesitation/hesitation.html

Re: Need new tranny oil?
When I shift, it feels chucky, not sure if that's the right word lol. It's like raw, I can feel the gear actaully sliding in and engaging. It also makes a clunk sound. I do not lose power but I'll try the fuel injector cleaner. It can't be the fuel filter or air filter since I changed that not to long ago on my last oil change...which I have to change again next week. I'll keep my eye on the spark plugs since I do want to change those.

Re: Need new tranny oil?
just like one clunk, or a couple clunks? it could be your synchros going out if it is that.

you can try changing out the fluid to some redline fluid. sometimes that takes away some grinding that goes on. if it just does "clunky shifts" when it is cold it is probably the fluid. getting thick and gunky in there when it is cold.

Re: Need new tranny oil?
if you change plugs, I recommend you go with stock NGK plugs. They are the best for our cars and provide the necessary depth into the cylinder heads to provide proper spark.

Re: Need new tranny oil?
Just one clunk, I doubt it's the sync..but it was a good thought.
This is what Mitch said from the 3ZC forum... "it may not be your trans bro. Check your sensors. ie...coolant temp sensor, PTUs, ect ect" and what I said... "Actually....I did receive a code 13 which is the coolant temp sensor. Would I have to replace it or is there a way to fix it? I have not searched to find where this is located since I'm busy but I will soon. Thanks for your help Mitch." |

Re: Need new tranny oil?
when you get a code about a sensor, it is either the wiring harness to that sensor or the sensor itself. so i would check the wiring harness first, if that seems find, the sensor is only $20 http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...Code=22630-Z32
