Engine Model #?
This might sound like a stupid question, but here goes:
Where exactly is the model number on the engine? I read that its below the radiator line near the distributor. Can someone tell me more spefically where this is? The distributor is to the left of the engine block? Do I need to be under the car to find the engine number? Thanks!

it's right below the distributor to the right a little on a 2"x2" or so square block. The reason why you might not be able to see it is because of dirt or oil. If it's a CRX Si then it should be D16A6, DX is D15B2 and HF is D15B6. What model is your car?

D16A6???
Originally an HF, I had a D16A6 installed about 2 years. My gf's uncle, a professional mechanic specializing in Japanese cars, did the swap. He owns his own shop so I figured he knew what he was doing... now I'm not so sure... I didn't change the ECU until more recently, when I asked him about it he said it didn't matter. RIGHT. An HF ECU with an SI engine... no wonder I couldn't RPM past 5500...
Anyway, I've noticed that although my car is faster, it doesn't seem to be as fast as other SI's I've seen (assuming stock si's). Although my engine says 16v, I wonder is this really a D16A6??? I'll check it later today... All this really doens't matter too much since I'm going with the B16A in about a month!

Oh man, harsh treatment for the newbies huh? HAHAHA...
You're right, but I would like to know why my car wasn't as fast as it should have been since the HF to SI swap.... I figure I can get something for an SI engine w/ less than 100k miles to offset the cost of the new engine... Anyway, looking forward to the b16a... took a ride in my friend's b16a crx this past weekend for the first time. I'm hooked.

Where are you buying the B16 from and does it come complete(engine, tranny, ecu, axels, shift linkage, mounts)? Just wondering.

My friend got his from some place in LA, so that's probably where I''ll be getting mine... b16a engine, ECU, tranny, axles, shift linkage, and stock mounts - $1200-1300 (engine w/40k miles). I can get the name of the place, I think they're pretty well known in SoCal...
My car's up for smog this year, I'll get that done first and then do the swap...

did you happen to swap the tranny too? if not there is the reason... the hf is geared way high compaired to the si for better gas milage and less acceleration

Honestly, I'm not sure about the tranny. At first he put in a 4 speed manual from god knows what car! I told him I wanted a 5-spd and he changed it back to a 5-spd. From what car, I have no idea. Sick, huh?
2 or 3 years ago I knew nothing about cars. Not that I'm an expert now, but at least I have a better idea of what should be under the hood and what my options are...

I think it's overall crazy and you should go for a B16 or ZC swap.

I checked the engine # today... D16B... seems to be a Non-VTEC SOHC from Europe or Asia? I couldn't find much info on this engine anywhere. Doesn't matter at this point, except if I plan on selling it... funny thing, the B is scratched to look almost like an A...

D16B is actually a 1600cc SOHC engine that came out with twin carbs in Australia. It was also a JDM spec engine I think, but I'm too lazy to check.
I know the JDM had the D15B 100bhp twin-carb we got here.
