Question Blowing fuse/no dash lights

I have a 94 Blazer. Recently my dash lights stopped working (only the ones that come on with the headlights, not the blue High beam symbol, ect). Also the rear tail lights stopped working (just the ones that come on with the headlights. I traced that to a simple blown fuse and replaced it.

Just tonight I was driving with my trailer and I noticed the dash lights were blinking when I applied the brakes. Also, my volt gauge was not working. At first it looked like a bad battery, but then the the fuse blew again. After it blew, the volt gauge started working again. That part has me puzzled. Anyway, I need some advice on where to start. Lay it on me.

Re: Blowing fuse/no dash lights

Does it do this only when towing the trailer? If it does, you have a problem with the trailer wiring.

Re: Blowing fuse/no dash lights

The taillight fuse applies power to the dashlight fuse. Your trailer is blowing your taillight fuse. I would say that the "short" was sever enough to cause your gauge to flicker.

Re: Blowing fuse/no dash lights

Yip, there is a short somewhere in the trailer wiring and it is actually damaging your alternator potentially.

Don't tow a trailer again until you figure it out.

Don't just keep on feeding it fuses.
