Question Temperature Guage

I just replaced the Thermo Temp. Switch for the Cold Start Valve and the Coolant Temp. Swich for the fan, also replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor and the Temp. Sending Switch for the guage and still the temp guage doesn't work?? I'm going to run a jumper wire tomorrow from the Temp. Guage wire to the switch to see if there maybe a break in the wire somewhere, but I think I'm getting a solid connection to the terminal. Is there anything that I may be over looking that could cause the guage not to work? Also, when I changed the coolant temp. switch it looked the same as the one I pulled off the car but the nut at the base was bigger?? Would that switch control the guage as well?? I'm just thinking that it may be the wrong one, but like I said they looked the same. If anyone has any comment that might help that would be great or if anyone has run into the same problem.
