My 90 accord's antenna mast was broken off so i replaced it. now when i turn the car on, the antenna goes up but the motor keeps going while the antenna is all the way up. same thing when i turn the radio off; it works great till the antenna is all the way down-then stills runs. did i maybe do something wrong when i took it all apart?

Re: Power Antenna Motor Wont Stop
The antenna motor switch has a set travel based on predetermined number of turns of the motor. It should continue to run for about 5 seconds after the antenna reaches the top or bottom. If it continues to run after that the switch is not opening. It operates on a cam in the motor assembly. Take out the complete assembly and disassemble. You should be able to see gear assembly which drives the cam gear. If it is stripped, salvage as much as you can and visit a junkyard. You may be able get one good working one out of yours and the junker or maybe the dealer can get the gears.

i found the problem.
when i took it apart, i didn't take notice of the position of the "brain gear" (only has one mating tooth on shaft of bull gear). this "brain gear" has a metallic side with a gap in the metal that acts as a conductor for the electronic switches. the gap has to be in a certain position to cut off the motor. i hadn't notcied the position the first time i did it and so when the bull gear's one tooth stopped turning the "brain gear", the contacts were still touching, hence the motor still ran. through a couple of experiments, i found the right set point for the "brain gear" all works great now |
