was it a digital or mechanical torque wrench? the digital wrenches suck, get/borrow a mechanical torque wrench. there's 2 types: primitive and practical.
the primitive type looks like a regulard 1/2" breaker bar with an extra thin bar attached to the top and extending down towards the handle. at the bottom of this "thin bar" is a tip, which moves along a scale, according to how much torque is applied to the head.
the practical kind is more expensive, but A LOT more accurate. it usually has a range from 15 ft-lbs to 250 ft-lbs, but there are variations and other ranges. It has a twist nob on the bottom above the handle, which easily allows you to set the torque setting to the desired value. when you torque the bolt to the desired value (having already calibrated the wrench), the torque wrench will click when you apply that certain amount of torque, to let you know that's as much as you need to apply. these torque wrenches are quite expensive, so i suggest you borrow one or rent it from your local automotive store.

when it comes to torque specs, IMO, i don't care much about them, unless its on a relatively vital part of the engine, chassis, drivetrain. i mean just be reasonable about it. its not worth torquing the bolts that hold the cruise control box to the car to 15 ft-lbs...hand tight with a regular wrench is fine... the tightness of those bolts will not make a difference in performance (obviously, too loose might cause the box to come loose, so just use common sense). On the other hand, when i did my 60K service, i rented a torque wrench, b/c i felt it necessary to torque the crank pulley bolt to the correct amount of ft-lbs (140 actually!) when re-installing it. but also, i'm not gonna care about the torque specs of the timing belt cover, whereas i would care about the torque specs of the timing belt tensioner!

also, the head bolts and other bolts on the engine block are VERY sensitive to correct torque. it could make the difference of a properly sealed head gasket or an oil leak. and you dont' wanna take that chance with those problems.

just my .02 cents

Hey thanks man, I used a newer model, the prctical one. but yeah I am concerned about the torque specs of the intake manifold, too much and you could break the gasket, too little and you risk damage your performance.

Re: Process of changing back spark plugs?

Linebckr49, are those shots from the www.manualcd.com website? I finally got enough guts to sign up with PayPal and ordered it last night.

Slade, no they're not, but i'm glad you ordered the ManualCD. let me know when you receive it in the mail, i know you won't be disappointed. i used it to get those torque specs for the intake plenum that i posted above. there's so much good info in there.

but ya, about the pics, no i got them from some website, can't remember, but they are from the Euro Spec 3000GT pamphlet. Some guy had scanned the pages onto his computer, i copied the pictures and cut out the words. it was in German and French. Actually, i posted regarding these pics in the 'IMPORTANT: Faq...read before asking' thread Igovert started (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=301872). I don't have the original pics with the German/French, but i do have some other cool pics. They're too big to post on here, but i can e-mail them to you if you'd like. what's your e-mail address?
