EGR valve

I had a comp/readout my 94 lesabre yesterday, because for the past month the service engine soon light has been coming on intermitently, The comp. said Random missfire detected and EGR pintel circuit.
Does anyone know what that means ?.
The car has 215,000 on it now
Thanks for any info.

Re: EGR valve

If you haven't done so within the last 50,000 miles, you probably might have to change spark plugs and/or wires. As for the EGR, I would check the connector to the EGR solinoid for loosness or oxidation. If you clean the pins, it might also help.

Re: EGR valve

Hey. Unrelated question on your 1994 Buick and getting the codes from the computer.

Does your car have a 12-pin connector or a 16-pin interface connector?

If it has a 16-pin, how did you go about getting the codes?

(The 1994-1995 LeSabres with the 16-pin connector are not OBD nor ALDL, they were somewhere in between, so none of the pins are in the correct locations on my 1995.)

Thanks!

Hi
Thanks for the reply, My car (94 LeSabre) has a 16 pin connector with 5 wires in it, they are left to right Red,Green,White,Black,Yellow.
I know the young man had to use a second pigtail connector to get the scan tool to communicate with the computer and I saw the readout, It said intermittent miss detected and EGR Pintel circuit, I think it was in the history because the engine was idleing with no check engine light at that time.
I am not sure what brand of scan tool he used ?, if you are interested I will ask and get back to you, I took digital pictures of the plug and wires if you are interested I will E-mail them to you, I think my E-mail is listed on this forum if not it is [email protected]
I haven't had any luck getting pictures posted here so e-mail is the easiest way for me, just let me know.

Re: EGR valve

The 3 Solenoid EGR valves used on our engines is pretty much junk, just get it replaced now while you can and save yourself the trouble.

Re: EGR valve

See... now my 16-pin has 6 wires on it. Black, black/white, black/white, red, (orange or tan), and (purple or blue). -- (I'm color blind, so it makes it difficult in low light.)

I recently found out some very interesting new information about the GM 16-pin pre-OBD-II that I'm going to post shortly.

However, I would be delighted to know how exactly they connected to your car. OBD-I or OBD-II scanner, and what the adapter it is they used to make it work.

Also, where did you take your car to get the read-out and did they charge you? I figure by the time I figure out how to get one, I will have this all figured out.

Some pics for reference purposes would definately be nice. I'll CC this message to your E-mail as well. If you'd like them posted, I can probably figure it out. Plus, they're probably relevant to my next post on this stupid issue.

(You'd think it would be documented somewhere on-line. Today was the first time I found a reference to the wiring differences. Unfortuantely, it was only a paragraphing stating that it existed.)

Thanks!
-MC
