89 camaro ignition security

Can any one tell me how to get around this switch sometimes the car will start and sometimes it won't . It's always when my wife drives it that it won't any help would be greatly appreciated

You mean the VATS I assume..
Well, there are a few ways around it.. One way (the proper way) is to replace the ignition lock cylinder.. Or you can measure the resistance of the small metal pellet in your key, go to an electronics store (radio shack?) and buy a resisitor of the same value and solder it in line under your steering column.. At the base of your steering colomn, there will be two very small wires with an orange jacket around them.. these are the wires you need to join with the resistor.. this will trick your ECM into thinking the proper key is in the ignition and it should always start.. But you will no longer have the Anti theft system..


Do a search for VATS.. You'l get all the info you need im sure
