off road Y pipe Q's

Need help on exhaust decisions. I am wondering if an off road Y pipe will bolt directly to my stock headers. All I can find is MAC headers with the off road y pipe with it for my 96' trans am. I can't find the off road y pipe by itself. Does anyone know a website or a dealer where i can by an off road y pipe and can it bolt to my stock headers?

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

One question first are you planning on getting rid of all the cats?

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

I am thinking about it.

I know a guy who has a SS and put an headers, off road y pipe, and loudmouth on his car and it sounds sick nasty.

I would probably end up with no cats.

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

Well then thats easy you just need to get a header system and Y- set -up for a 93-95 (not Cali car though because 95 Cali F-boys got extra cats) and will need to cut out rear cat or gut it and have the Y-pipe welded in place. Also if you plan to go long tubes instead of mid or shorties which normally come with Y-pipe. You can look into buying a Hooker,Pacesetter or SLP off road y or You can have a fabrication made up at any local Exhaust shop for usually under $150 -$200. Don't forget your going to need O2 simulater(can't spell correctly right now but you know what I mean)

Having no cats will be illegal, right?

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

Yup(sorry I had to do a edit I read it too quickly before and thought you said legal instead of illiegal), If your looking to get away with it while removing some back pressure. I would get rid of the 2 forward cats and just run one like was used on earlier lt1's and this should pass because it passes on earlier cars.

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

Depends on which route you want to go.
If I was looking for a cheap set up but that provided very good number's for very little money I would go for Pacesetter's Mid's which includes the Y-Pipe and the only things extra you will need is thread locking compound and better gaskets than the one's that come with headers cause those one's suck. I recommend GM replacement Gasket's.
2. If you have some money to throw around but still not the most expensive I would go with Hooker Long Tubes. USe there optional Y or I also believe Pacesetter LT Y- will work and same thing with gasket's and Locking compound

Hooker's are known for being one of the best on the market and Pacesetter have had good and bad reviews but I have had very good luck when it comes to dealing with them and the tone is pretty damn good.

P.S.- Keep in mind to call a exhaust Shop before hand and make sure they can Weld your exhaust the day of the install. As you will need to have the Y-pipe welded to the Cat.

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

Is it bad to run no cats without O2 sims? I know it turns the check engine light on.

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

The rear O2's don't have any control over A/F mixture , The only purpose they have is to make sure that your cats are filtering out emisions. So to short hand it no. Although I would not want to have my check engine light on all the time

Re: off road Y pipe Q's

I believe its more than that because if the O2 sensors stay stationary for any extended period of time that sets off the Check light as well.
