I hate how my 97 corolla idles

I love my Corolla but am starting to hate the idling of my car. For example, my car idles at 1500 RPM when the engine is cold, about 10 minutes of driving it was fall to 1100RPM, then 10 minutes later it might fall to 1000RPM and then driving in stop and go will make my engine drop to the normal 800RPM. Then a few minutes of driving and will rise to about 1000 RPM again. I know its normal for cars to idle differnetly when the engine is cold and warm but is very inconsistent and is annoying to drive standard this way. On cold days it will idle at 1900 RPM. wtf is that all about. I'm almost in second gear at that RPM already, lol. Anyways was just wondering if your corollas idle like that and its not just me. If it is just me than what could be the problem???

it idles so high when it's cold so it warms up quicker. once it hits normal temp it'll drop to 800-1000. the different RPM levels happen based on the engine temp.

Re: I hate how my 97 corolla idles

This may help...

IDLE SPEED
INSPECTION
1. INITIAL CONDITIONS
(a) Engine at normal operating temperature
(b) Air cleaner installed
(c) All pipes and hoses of air induction system connected
(d) All vacuum lines properly connected
(e) SFI system wiring connectors fully plugged
(f) All operating accessories switched OFF
(g) Ignition timing set correctly
(h) Transmission in neutral position
* 2. CONNECT TOYOTA HAND–HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL (See page EM–11, EM–13)
3. INSPECT IDLE SPEED
(a) Race the engine at 2,500 rpm for approx. 90 seconds.
(b) Check the idle speed.
Torque: Idle speed (w/ Cooling fan OFF):
700 ± 50 rpm
If the idle speed is not as specified, check the IAC system.
4. DISCONNECT TOYOTA HAND–HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL

* if no tool available just read the Tachometer
