Two "quick" fluids question

Hey guys, two quick questions for ya.

First, I have too much oil in my 78 z28 heh. Its about 1/3 of the distance from "low to high" above the high. Is this bad? Should I bother getting rid of it and refillling?

Second question is my radiator fluid. When I take the cap off the radiator its just under the lip of the cap, which is at a 45 degree angle. When I look in the white cube container thing, its quite far below the "mininum" level. Can this be bad? If its full in the radiator, how would i add more...

Thank you in advance for any and all answers. Gotta go to work now

Re: Two "quick" fluids question

the excess oil in the crankcase isnt nessesaryly a bad thing but it might cause windage problems that will rob hp, and cause excess oil heat buildup, which would lead to accelerated oil ware. but i think if your just doin day to day driving, leave it alone till your next oil change.

as far as the coolant, leave the radiator cap on, and fill the white bottle directly. or if you dont have an overflow tank cap, then with the radiator cap off have someone bring the revs up on the engine, this will cause the coolant level to drop a few inches, and top it off, and cap it before you let the revs down.

Re: Re: Two

Cool, thanks alot 89Iroc. The thing is that the temp stays around a solid 210, doesnt budge from it when im driving around so I wasn't sure if it was doing anything funky. That and it would leak after some driving(the guy must have filled it quite a bit more) but now it doesn't at all. Never know with these old cars heh. Thanks again though man.

Re: Two "quick" fluids question

210 thats a bit high dont you think. my 85 z was running high 180s-210. try changing the Thermostat. you dont want the car to run to hot. wont that mess up heads. and if its still running hot, you might have to small of a Radiator. you said its a 78. you might have a 2 core, looking into a 3 or even better a 4 core. also, if your worried about the oil, go under the car, crack open the oil plug, drain some oil out, tighten it back up.

Since when is 210 high for an 8 to run hot at ? Mine doesn't kick until 235 and then only cools down to 218 before shut off.
I haven't ever had an overheat problem with it , I don't notice a change in overall performence starting cold and running warm. All the same. Could also be because I had two coolers sitting in front of my car , one for tranny fluid and one for oil.

Re: Two "quick" fluids question

any of you guys ever seen the Horsepower TV where they took a 98 SS and replaced all the fluids with royal purple synthetic. rear-end gear oil, trans fluid, oil, and put additive into the coolant on a bone stock car and they dynoed an 8hp gain, just from fluid. makes ya think...
