Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 Turbo Kit I'm Confused about something please help!!
Ok I've read the threads on turboing a RS/GS eclipse and know theres quite a bit invloved in completing the process of which from what I have read on here includes needing new internals such as forged rods and pistons that can handle the extra power. BUT on the DSMtuners website for turbos under articles there is a guy who goes through the entire process of install with his new HRC Stage 2 kit and claims to have just about almost everything he needs just from the kit, and goes about installing the turbo with pictures and BAM hes done. HOWEVER, he did'nt mention ANYTHING about his internals or doing much of anything to his stock engine other then putting this turbo kit on.
IS this because with this particular kit you just don't need to do any of that rebuilding the engine part to handle the extra power or was this guy just dumb for not doing any of that. Can someone please clarify this for me. thanks LA. |

HRC Stage 2 kit DOES NOT require any internal engine modifications. The 420a can handle it.
They do suggest (not required) that you switch out your stock exhaust to keep it from restricting air flow to get the full 8psi. |

Any sugguestions on a pretty good compatiable after market exhaust system that would work well with the HRC stage 2? thanks, LA

How much horsepower would the GS/RS have AFTER the HRC Stage2 installation? AND, what would it run on a 1/8 and 1/4 mile tracks?
(just give it a guess if your not 100% on it) |

AFTER the HRC Stage2 installation, GS/RS Power Output@ crankshaft should be 250 to 275 HP. (This is with NO internal engine modifications)
1/4 mile performance (on street tires): 13.7 seconds @103 MPH (-2.3 seconds vs. GS-T!) |

yes those specs are probably pretty accurate as they are the same specs that come from the hahn racecraft turbo page about the stage 2 system. BUT I still have'nt got an answer from anyone on what would be a good pretty compatible exhaust system to go with this stage 2 kit on a GS 420a motor? thanks, LA
p.s also if anyone knows if a greddy front mount intercooler would work well with this stage 2 kit please let me know that also. thanks. |

Re: Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 Turbo Kit I'm Confused about something please help!!
I have a 420A with 110k miles on it.. IF I were to decide to boost it... do you guys think that's a good idea? In my case I still will have to upgrade the internals right?

Yah I need to know that as well, my car has 133,000 Miles, if I have to rebuild the internals, thats over my head (as far as $Money$ goes)
So please, let me know if a 1997 Eclipse RS, 133,000 Miles could handle 8-10psi without blowing or without having the internals rebuilt. One more thing, how much would it cost to upgrade internals the right amount for 10psi? Thanks --Logan |

Re: Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 Turbo Kit I'm Confused about something please help!!
Heres what you need to do "if" you want more HP and psi boost
1. intake manifold = fully Ported & polished = $200-$300 2. head = complete built Ported & polished $250-$350 3. bottom block = rebuilt w/ new pistons & rods .20/ .40/ or .60 bore $1000-$1300 4. racing turbo cams @ nopi.com $600-$800 5. adjustable cam gears $150-$280 6. 60mm throttle body $200-$300 those prices are around those areas with all this done to your stock 420A motor you can get a good 40%-60% gain in your HP so your built motor would be from your stock 120hp to a wopping 200hp And thats your main engine tuning. Thats "IF" you want a built motorand spend the money, or just use Hanhs turbo w/ your stock motor be cheaper. If you guys want to buy a 420a motor thats already built then let me know I have one thatis built ready for a turbo. [email protected]

Re: Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 Turbo Kit I'm Confused about something please help!!
I have a 275hp naturally aspirated 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Over the last 6 years I have spent $40k on my eclipse to find out how powerful the 420A motor is. It is actually incredibly powerful. Between an amazing block and a race design head you can pull a butt load of horsepower out of this motor. Now the main problem is the tranny, because the tranny its self can only handle upto 350hp. With a really good port and pollish and some welding you can potentially pull out 60-80hp on the head alone. The head was designed by Lotus (British Supercar). With that said, theroetically on a stock block you should be able to run safely upto around 10psi. But keep in mind, more pressure creates more stress and more stress destroys an engine a lot faster. But on 10psi as long as you don't floor it from light-light you should be fine for a year or so. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't go above 8psi. However, by building up your lower engine for about $2500, you can easily get upto about 220hp on a naturally aspirated engine. With those modifications done and you install a $2500 turbo system then you are easily smokin vetts with a 400hp 4 banger. On top of that you would have 220hp that would pull your car till the turbo kicked in, and one has to conscider how much horsepower it really takes to shave off a second. So with a really high hp engine before the turbo you can easily gain a second or two. Then the turbo kicks in and you're off like a lightening bolt. As for the block, you can't bore out your block more than .40 over because you will bore into the oil and cooling passages for the engine. So if you want a lot of hp and fast, take the head off the engine and spend $500-$1000 and gain 60-80hp. However, there are a few amazing machinest and there are a lot of shitty machinest, so be careful on who you send your head to.
