Windstar LX

I just want to know..... can anyone tell me what is the best model of the Windstar? As in how loaded with features it is? I have a 2001 Windstar LX and I want to know what category it falls into.

Thx

There is GL that has less features and SEL I believe that is loaded with extras. LX is in between.

Re: Windstar LX

I would say that GL/LX/and SEl.. all are a bad choice.. Owner since 96' new.. and wouldn't tell anyone to buy one of these lemons.. sorry but only my experiences..no.. countless headaches of premature failure of rack and pinions, head gaskets blown, windshield wipers and door actuator motors , and aon and on.. Not a vehicle I would be telling my friends to look at purchasing new(freestar) or used! $32,500. list new,(paid $26,800) now $3200 if I'm lucky..

My suggestion to any prospective windstar buyer is stick with the basics- so long as it fits your needs. Rear a/c, power sliding doors, power seats, traction control, etc... almost ALWAYS get problematic as the vehicle ages . I love my plain'ol LX. The only thing I've "added" was, I yanked the OEM am/fm & added a OEM am/fm/cd for $100 (eBay purchase).
G/luck

Re: Windstar LX

There's no GL model in the 2001 line, there was a plain model for a work van, then the LX, SE, SE Sport, SEL and Limited. Not sure if there were other Sport versions than the SE.

I have the 2000 SEL and it has more goodies like power seats, power sliding doors etc but as mentioned more to go wrong. I've already worked on one power sliding door that was having multiple problems.

On the other hand the SEL came standard with an extra ATF cooler which might keep the problem tranny a little cooler, not to say you couldn't install a better version on the LX for cheap. Also the SEL came with a block heater, unfortunately I didn't notice mine until Spring.

I wonder what an average 9 year old vehicle is worth. Probably in the same neighbourhood
