Unhappy Navigation System Stuck

Just drove my 2000 BMW 740IL from Biloxi, MS to Dallas, TX and back (Tue - Fri). My Nav system got me through the streets of Dallas, Shreveport, Jackson, MS, and a few other cities. However, I stayed overnight in Vicksburg, MS on return trip. The next morning, I input city of Vicksburg and attempted some sightseeing. Nav system display became stuck on the Mississippi River. I have now returned to Biloxi, on the Gulf of Mexico, but my nav system is still showing Vicksburg. Also, it has not shown the proper streets since it became stuck. Right now, it shows the bimmer setting in the Mississippi River, 220 miles away. But, it is in my driveway; I know, I just looked. I have changed nav CDs, even disconnected the battery. Still, the nav system keeps the memory and thinks we are still in Vicksburg. Even when I input a different destination, it starts in Vicksburg, MS. I don't want to move to Vicksburg. Any suggestions??

Re: Navigation System Stuck

Have you checked your fuses, even the ones under the back seat? Sounds like the sending unit went dead and the processing unit keeps using the last data from the sending unit.

LibertyLover: I did check all obvious fuses, but didn't know there were any under the back seat. I'll check there tomorrow. Can you describe the sending unit and tell me where it's located?

on the 2000's the fuses are located under the hood on the passenger side and in the trunk next to the battery. It used to be under the seat <99??
69 (gotta love that one) is the nav,OBC,CD and radio fuse

Looks like they moved that fuse box to a more convienent location, which is good, and good to know.

When I said "sending unit" I meant the GPS Antenna/Receiver because it would have a position (Latitude/Longitude) output. The Lat/Long data then has to be coverted by some sort of map processing unit for the display to an X/Y system, i.e., so many pixels over and so many pixels down. Since yours seems to be stuck in the Mississippi River, I'm theorizing that your GPS Antenna/Reciever is the problem.

However, the GPS Antenna/Reciever and the map processing unit may be built into the same physical box and share a common fuse. And since this is a system that wouldn't be expected to fail very often, the fuse may be in the secondary fuse box, located in the trunk next to the battery.

Re: Navigation System Stuck

Just checked the fuses again, including the trunk, all working. Your advice on the antenna/receiver seems logical. I found it located on driver's side in the trunk. Since I don't have another to test, guess I'll have to go to the dealer.
