Flowmaster 50 Series...

Another exhaust question...
Does anybody have Flowmaster 50 Series on their Silverado??
I have heard that these have a nice sound outside the cab
and the interior resonance is almost non existent.
Have I heard correct?
I have Gibson Single 3" swept side system which I have modified
twice already with no success. I am looking for a good muffler
which will have a nice sound outside the cab, but QUIETER inside
the cab. Would a Flowmaster 50 Series be for me?? Or would a
70 Series be better??
Also, why do the Silverado's create so much more interior resonance
than the older trucks??

Please Help!!

what size motor? I had a 50 series on my 4.3L V6 and it sounded good (for a V6)

If you dont want alot of interior resonance i'd go with the 70 series. If you go to the flowmaster website you can hear what a 70 series sounds like on a 5.3L motor.

Yes, you have heard correctly. I have the 50 series on my truck and now all I hear is the road noise. I have stock exhaust to the muffler and dual 2.5" out with tips. They have a very mild sound outside and the only time you hear it inside is when you get on it to pass. After I installed them, I had to look at the tach to make sure the engine started. I had a glasspack or something like that on it before and this is night and day for interior noise. I wish it was a little louder outside but not having the low constant droning resonance inside on a road trip is very nice.
Now just if my seals would seal a little better and keep more road and wind noise out......

I have been to the flowmaster site and listened to the
soundclips and I liked it, but its hard to tell w/o ACTUALLY
listening to a real one.
I also noticed that there are two different versions
of the 50 series. The truck/suv version is the better one
for this application I am assuming...
And yeah, I hear you about the wind noise thing.
I had a 96 and that truck was so much quieter inside.
And, installing exhaust wasnt such a hassle for interior
resonance either!!

Re: Flowmaster 50 Series...

ya, thats the one I have. the truck/suv one. I dont know what the differance is but I figured "hey, it's going on a truck".

And as for the sound clips, they all sound the same to me. Just depends on how much you turn up your speakers.

Re: Flowmaster 50 Series...

The roadnoise thing must be just our years also. A buddy has a 2003 and I have to shut the door twice most of the time because it's so tight. And quiet(er).

Funny thing, right after I got my truck, I was driving along one day
and there was horrible wind noise on the passenger side...
Turned out the third door didnt get shut tight, therefore the
front passenger door wasnt shut tight either.
But, as you can imagine I cussed the truck out left and right...

Anyways, I ordered the 50 series Flowmaster from Summit.
I hope this is what I am looking for. If not, I am done. I am gonna
put the stock exhaust back on, and chalk it up as a loss. I have
already put almost enough money into this to get a Corsa system,
which is what I would have done to begin with had I known about
the resonance problem.

Flowmaster 52

I had a flowmaster 52 installed on my '03 5.3 about three months ago... I used the stock pipes for fear I would not like the sound. It is a little louder inside than expected but then again I am running the interstate at 75+MPH daily. I have gotten used to it and would recommend it as it has a nice growl but is not offensive. Coupled with a K&N FIPK II and a lead foot it sounds really awesome when you get into it.

Just installed the muffler this morning,
and I have to say I am pleased. It still has
just a hint of resonance inside the cab, but
it is'nt as offensive. It has a nice tuned
sound to it.
I can deal with the little bit of resonance this puts off.

Thanks for all the help in making my decision.

P.S. Summit ROCKS!! I ordered this muffler on Saturday
if I remember correctly, and it got here on Wednesday!!
I wasnt expecting it until Friday!!
I would recommend Summit wherever possible!!
