Remote keyless reciever

I have a 98 chevy K1500 and I have a dome light problem that I believe is being caused by my Remote reciever. What happens is while driving the dome light will flicker now and then and when you shut the truck off the dome light comes on and will not shut off. I have replaced the headlight/ domelight switch and checked the door ajar switches and find nothing wrong. If I turn the key on and push the dome override button then turn the key off the dome light shuts off or it will shut off as soon as the engine is started. When the truck is off and I release the dome override I can hear a relay inside the keyless reciever click and the light comes on. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked ok for a minute and then the same thing happened. I also unlocked and locked the doors with the remote and the dome light went off a couple times, But eventually that didn't work anymore either. I am thinking I need to replace the reciever, But at $100.00 I would like a second opinion. Does anyone agree with replacing the reciever and if so is there anything special that needs to be done or special tools needed ?? How do I reprogram the remotes ??? Any help would be greatly appreciated and TIA.
