2005 Grand Prix Climate Control

Hello,
I recently purchased a 2005 Grand Prix with dual climate zone option. I have noticed that my air conditioner button light comes on often when I turn on the fan regardless of what temperature I have set. For example, the temperature in the morning in south jersey has been around 40 deg and the night before I set the temperature to be 85 degrees before I turned off my car. So when I turn on my car, the temperature reads 85 deg keeping the last value I wanted to car to bring the temperature to. Yet, even though the temperature in the car and outside is well below the 85 deg, the A/C light comes on.

Now, I don't necessarily think anything is wrong since the car does put out heat after the car has warmed up. Though, I just find it odd that the A/C button light comes on. I can turn it off by pressing the A/C button. Like said, it happens every time in the morning but not always in the daytime.

Is this some time of so called feature with the grand prix? I guess it would make sense to me if I just set the knob to AUTO which give the Grand Prix to cool and heat the car at will. However, I don't have either the blower speed or direction on the auto setting.

Can you guys give me some insight to what's going on here? Do you think this is in fact a maintaince issue or is this just the way things work with the GP?

I know the owners manual says that the A/C light being on does not necessarily mean the actual compressor is running if the temperature is running in another mode which I guess would be heat. However, the manual does not state that the A/C will come on by itself either.

Thanks for your help!

~Brian

many new cars use the a/c like a dehumidifier, to dry the air to make the defroster work more efficiently and keep the heater from fogging up the windows. It's totally normal.

The 2005 Grand Prix looks identical to the 2004. Though, I can't submit a picture right now but it is black to give you a visual image ;-). The big changes were options for the vehicle. The addons I put in as a factory option that were not available for the 04's were dual-climate control and remote start. The remote start was a great deal since it was such a low cost compared to paying someone several hours or burning up several hours of your day.

Anyway, I appreciate the follow-up. It just seemed odd to me about the A/C light coming on occassionally. Thanks for the input!

Re: 2005 Grand Prix Climate Control

Brain,
If your car has the inside temp controll. Once it hit the temp it's set at, the air shut down. Saves gas. If you feel the air it will get cold, then warm alittle and so on. Have a Brother-in-Law that's a big shot at GM in Warren, Michigan. He says enjoy the car. As you said, they did a couple of new things.
By the way, everyone out here seems to like three things. CARS, helping people. AND HAVING FUN.
Take care.

No. If you can't do it schools. We can't have it here. Why is it that you can smoke dope in schools. Sleep with your teacher and report your Mother and Dad to the police. But you can't pray? I think I will have to raise my own taxes, so I can find out.
