Newbie Here, Two Questions

First off I would like to say hi and I am fortunate to have found such a forum. I hope this Falcon section can help me out in my latest project. My brother purchased a 1963 Ford Falcon about two weeks ago. I've sorta taken on the project of making this car a daily driver. Already had the carb rebuilt, replaced valve cover and gasket, and changed the oil. Replacing the valve cover was a pain because of a broken bolt in the block, but I was able to take that sucker out using an extractor bit from Sears.

Ok, while the engine was running I noticed there is a leak in the exhaust manifold. Looks like the gasket to me. So I bought a new gasket, but I'm not sure which direction I am to mount it. It has two sides, a black paper side, and an aluminum side. I am not sure which side is supposed to face the engine, any help would be apppreciated.

My other question is would anyone know what the torque specs on the manifold bolts are? I hope its just the gasket and not the manifold itself, I have read they were prone to cracking??!!

The engine is a 144 6 cylinder...thanks for checking out my thread!

Re: Newbie Here, Two Questions

18 ft/lb (28.40Nm) for the manifold
im not sure of the correct way in which that gasket goes on but it sounds like the silver side should go towards the engine.
