Question Loud Pipes

Give me a break! Loud pipes make no sence. They annoy the hell outta me. All the time i hear people drive by my house with these loud ass pipes to make their car sound 'more powerful' ( or better than it really is) and its pathetic. One evening I was detailing my car one and what not, and then i hear this extremely loud sound (noise). I look up and see a some SUV going about 5 mph. And then people have the nerve to put it on Calvaliers!? Make your car go fast instead of portraying fake speed with cheap sound effects. Though I have lots of respect for loud powerful motors. But you know its bad when you hear that noise on 92 Chevy pickups. Thats my opinion. If you have some sound off.

Re: Loud Pipes

when(if) i do my exhaust i'm doing most of the intermediate piping and stock muffler. i can't stand the sound you're talking about. my friends are all into civics and they all sound like shit, they're fast, but the sounds they produce are obnoxious.

I have a Calvalier and my pipes are pretty loud.

A. I did it for the performance gain, not the noise. And yes, there was a considerable gain.

B. I happen to like the sound.

C. Whats wrong with Calvaliers?

And D. LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!

Re: Loud Pipes

The worst sound in the world has to be a ricer with one of those fart-mufflers. Sounds like an anemic vacuum cleaner.

Re: Loud Pipes

I'm thinkin bout getting one of those Aero Turbine Exhausts, but mounting it up in place of my resonator(i think that's the thing), between my cat and muffler, and remove the stock muffler. It will give me the performance gain, but not be as loud as if it were at the same spot as the stock muffler...Maybe get the sport model and replace both muffler and resonator...i dunno, but definately that brand.

My nova has turndowns(a muffler coming directly off the header with a 5 inch long piece of pipe off the back of the muffler turned towards the ground). Its extremely loud and pretty much deafening to ride in when your accelerating. I know your talking about loud pipes on riceburners, but the loud pipes on my Nova sounds great IMO .

Re: Loud Pipes

I love loud pipes on V-8's...any V-8's. I like loud pipe(s) on any turboed car, but otherwise they sound really funny.

It all depends on how loud and what kind of engine. If its a V8 with a big exhaust then it always sounds perfect. i don't think i've ever heard a bad sounding louder than stock exhaust on a v8. On the other hand many people have a straight through exhaust with no mufflers in their v6's and 4cylinders which, for the majority, not all but majority, sound like downrigt sh*t. But definitely, on a V8 or tuned turbo them exhausts sound sweeeeet once done properly.

Re: Loud Pipes

Yeah I feel ya on the loudness..

Seems like every car nowadays from your suzuki swift to your 1.5L lancer, has a cannon sticking out the backend. Even worse is the people with faster cars who put even bigger ones on, then comment that they atleast have the power..

sounds like LMS

I'm pretty much in agreeance with zWrangler. Although I'm getting pretty sick of the piped trucks because everybody and their brother has a fucking pickup with straight pipes in my town. 4 banger wise, there are many ways to screw it up. I like exhausts that emit a deep sound, but there some that sound like a saxaphone reed mouthpiece got glued to the muffler. Not a big fan of those...For some reason, rotaries sound good with basically any muffler on them.

Re: Loud Pipes

THe majority of aftermarket exhausts are a 500% increase in noise for a 5% increase in power.

Fucking stupidity when you can have 4% out of 5% gain for only a slight increase in noice with the right exhaust system design - sounding almost stock.

Tuned length headers with a reasonably free flowing muffler.

But people will never get over the 'look-at-me,i-rent-my-canon-exhaust-to-homeless-people-to-make-car-payments' attention whore mentality.

I Find that product very very hard to believe, just by bolting on a can some people have gained near 25 hp, it's bs for the most part unless you running a turbo'd vehicle you won't see gains like that thats even when bolting on a full system including header and all.

YUCK on most ricers. I am willing to put the TRD Sport muffler on for a try... The stock intake is loud as shit anywhere above 2400 the engine has a nice sound... But nothin like the straight pipe roar of a V-8. My friend put the SLP Loud mouth on his LS1 camaro. Sounds sweet.

I'd hope that someone at least knows how to spell the name of their own car.

My exhuast guy had to put 3 mufflers on the rx-3 and the car is still louder than 95% of the cars on the street. We are going to have to put another muffler on there.
