service signal!!!!

hi every one

i am new at this forums

i need your help

i have a 1.6 golf

there is a signal with the word service flashing on the panel
how can i remove it or stop it

the service i think it is for oil
so i change it but it not stop flashing

my golf is 2002 model
SR 1.6

total trip 22.000 KM

this word apear first whin i turn my car and stay for a while then desapear with no return till i shut the car and start it again

there are two buttons on your dash,one at the speedo-the other at the rev counter,-if your car is on fixed interval servicing,this should do it.
press and hold button by speedo,switch ign on,the word service will appear in the trip recorder display,release button,turn button under the rev counter to the right to reset,switch ign off.any probs let me know.
