Ceck Gauges Light

Hey guys,

Quick question on temperture problems with a 93RS 3.4 V6 with a few aftermarket modifications. I love Lil' Nicky (not so affectionaly named by my mechanics) but he is having a new problem. I'm used to problems with my car (I've had it for 7 years and @ 130,000) but the temp. went to 240-260 last night and stayed there with the check gauges light on. Scared the hell out of me. I have spent a lot of time in the garage but we have never had this problem and I just moved to Kentucky so I have to find a new mechanic and want a little info. before I take it down there (long story but they see me and assume my main concern is the visor mirror and if the exterior color matches my shoes). Unfortunately like I said I don't know anything about this particular problem - I assume it's a slow radiator leak and the radiator will probably need to be flushed as well. My dad thinks it may be that or related to the cooling system fan but I haven't had any problems there and it did go from 260 to 240 when I blasted the AC (thank god). I have been noticing a little puddle for about the last 8 days but my fiance checked and thought it was condensation from the AC but now I'm sure it was a leak of some kind. I need advice from people who know camaros before I go to the new mechanic. Thanks for any info!

Re: Ceck Gauges Light

Does the coolant fan even come on when it gets above 240? If it doesn't I would check the switch that turns it on when the temp gets too high, or maybe the fan motor went out. Maybe you want to think about putting in a toggle switch so you can better control engine temp. Also, have you checked what the puddle is under your car? Next time you notice it dab your finger in it and smell it, if it doesn't smell it's probably water. You could taste it too, if you can't tell what it is by smelling, as long as you only taste a little...
