tuned-up sky: how reliable?

hi guys i just bought a stock r34 and think of boosting it to about 700-800 bhp. my concern is how long will the engine last if all the necessary adjustments are in place? im gonna use it as an all around car too. anyone who has a highly tuned sky gtr, would you venture a 3000 km travel to the coast in such a car?
any comments from gtr mods owners are especially welcome

Well it is the same as a 5.2 litre V8 making 1,600 hp. At that sort of grunt it isn't going to last too long. The same with the RB motors. While a lot of people think they are indistructable, well they aren't. Even with top parts your car's engine probably won't last too long. Off the top of my head based on what I've seen and heard from people that build these cars all the time about 15-20,000km if you're lucky.

There IS a difference between HAVING 700 - 800 hp and actually USING that power all the time. If you have a beast but keep it on a leash during your daily commute and then let it run free on the weekend for a bit...it should do okay. I would be more conserned about the transmission and clutch.

You've never owned a highly tuned sports car have you?

Assuming you have super human levels of self control and only drive it hard on the weekends you still have to deal with the inheriant reliablity problems you get when you modify a car to make more than twice its orginal hp.

I certianly would not want to drive one 3,000km with out a service crew following me.

First and foremost... VERY nice car. I'm with Hatter on this one. I love the 34's as well.

One question I do have though is are you sure that car is a GT-R? I know that you didn't say whether it was or not in this thread but you have it as a GT-R in your profile.

The reason that I'm asking is because if it is... it's the best disguise-job I have ever seen. It's had it's GT-R badge removed from the rear, the narrower quarter panels and fenders installed, also the front grill and bumper would have been changed as well. Doesn't look much like a GT-R to me. If you could clarify that a little that would really be a big help on our end so that we could give you the best information possible.

I'm just gonna say that Hatter really has spent a LOT of time around Japanese sports cars here in Japan and his son is the best "american" drifter I know. We (Hatter and I) also have a very good friend out here with a 600hp R32 GT-R that he literally drives the hell out of nearly every day and it has been running fine for the last year on a single T-88 turbo with a full tune. Provided, he religiously does his maintenance on the vehicle with only the best parts and lubricants at half the recommended intervals.

Maturity brings with it a level of self control (generally speaking). Most teenagers aint gonna be driving a car tuned to that level. The guys who have theirs tuned to much higher levels appreciate what they have and know when and where to stomp on it. If they beat their daily driver (no matter HOW highly tuned) it's gonna break sooner than later.

As for having a crew following you around....most people I know with highly tuned cars ARE their crew and can deal with their issues as they come up. If ALL of one's tuning came from a shop on your pocketbook, you generally aint deserving of the car to begin with. It deserves better, and should be in someone else's stable.

There is a big difference in stresses between 600hp and 800hp, as a matter of fact they are huge. Any way you slice it a high strung motor like that babied all the time will foul plugs and run like shit.

A Trust T8833D or 34D tuned to 600hp isn't even tuned! Consdering even on a mild amount of boost to make that turbo spool with a 2.7litre engine won't see full boost until 5,500rpms. Then it will come on like a tonne. Considering you can easily achive 750hp without too much troubles on a conservative tune I would say that isn't even tuned, or tuned right. As someone who "drives one" would know that car wouldn't have any go until at least 4,700 rpm before it will even begin to pull its own weight up hill without bogging badly.

At the end of the day asking one of these motors to make that and with the odd boot full as we do, I'm not say drive it like you stole it all the time, the wear and tear on the crank, cylinders, and block are going to be horrific. Also as anyone remotely familar with these engines they have a bad habbit of cracking between the #3 and #4 cylinders. When Top Secret was down here 1 1/2 years ago they litterally broke 2 blocks in a span of 3 days. One at the drags and another on the open road in their R34 GTR. Considering it was half full of block fill and it was making a modest 850hp that isn't too impressive.

On a final note no matter how you slice it or who ever "has your back" Gladhatter I've go no time for you due to your mindless dribbles you post all over the place. If you want to impress me mate grow up a bit and post like someone who is of age instead of someone who "appears" to be a teenager with Grand Turismo knowledge and vocabulary skills.

From the pics I'd say its a R34 GTT as the arches don't bulge out like the GTR's plus the different bumper, spoiler etc.

i have a quick question...why is your paint scheme different in both photos?
in my opinion i'd put much better suspensions on that car rather than stock....nice car whosever it is.. check out the UFO license plate...i think your cars from mars or ur-anus
