Flow tech or Headman

I'm looking into buying some headers for my 84Z and I was wondering how much of a horse power increase i would get for putting headers on. Also i know headman are far better headers in general, but do they have a bigger power increase over flowtech?

thanks, Kyle

Re: Flow tech or Headman

headers can offer up to 40hp increase depending on the application, but probly 20-30 is a safe bet for an otherwise stock engine setup.

Re: Flow tech or Headman

When you buy headers , You got to remember it may not be fully effective with a stock exhaust set up such as cat , pipes , muffler. If you go with a 1 5/8 ( Dunno if you have an 8 or what. ) but you get a 3" out of the header than you mount that with an adapter to like a 1 7/8 or 2 - 2 1/2 it will be cutting back some flow plus stock cats aren't designed for headers and more flow like that so that will be something else to consider.
Headers are a cheap quick way to get a few ponies though , no doubt. If you do that , Just go through the whole exhaust , I've heard of people getting around 60 HP of Hi-perf. exhaust set ups from like magna flow , flowmaster. n what not. Check it out see what you can get for your money. Best way to save money on it and still get performance is tons of research =) Good luck.

Yeah, thanks for the information. I'm going to be doing the whole exhaust system with a flowmaster setup.

Re: Flow tech or Headman

i think its more about personal preference. ive heard flowmaster and i own magnaflow, personally i like the sound of the magnaflow better. if you really want to get down to it, magnaflow uses a straight through design muffler that is designed for more flow, where as flowmaster has an actual muffler design that (to me) seems to be more designed around sound than flow...

I agree, even tho if I get a catback i think im gettin a TSP rumbler. That is if i don't stick to the plan I thought up today, that is to drive her stock till the death then save up for a whole k-member complete with tranny from a 96 and up z28. I think that If I got a complete k-member and everyhting then it would just be a matter of dropping the one i have now and replacing it, hooking up the tranny and bam. Anyone follow?
