Hey ? can someone please help? I have a '78 trans am motor (400) in a buick body, the car has always worked perfectly, other than minor repairs here and there. Suddenly, the car began overheating to the point it blew hoses, I had them replaced, the water pump replaced. Tried to drive it , still was over heating. I put it in a local garage, had the oil changed , the transmission fluid changed, the thermostat changed, and the radiator checked , and the head gaskets checked. Got the car tried to drive and it is STILL the same problem. Took it back to garage, NOW they tell me the plate behing the water pump is missing, but that you can't buy them. What is a lady suppossed to do? Is there a plate behingd the pump? And where can I get one? THANKS.

Re: HELP! Still overheating!!!
Try a local junkyard.....have you also had the radiator replace or clean...those old GM radiator where known for rusting....that rust/crude can getinto the engine and water pump and ruin it....your probably better off replacing it with a much better radiator if it has not been dealt with...

Re: HELP! Still overheating!!!
Thanks for replying.. the garage said the radiator is fine. At the junkyard.. do I ask for the 'plate behind the water pump'?
