Ok I was driving home from work in the 02 Liberty and the Oil light came on. I stopped and checked the oil and it was fine. Got back in and the light was out. Started back down the road and it came on again. Shortley after it started making a noise and then squealed a couple times, seemed to be losing power kinda. Right as I pulled in the driveway it DIED(stalled out). It will not start or even turn over, it just kinda click like it would if the alternator went out or battery was dying. I know this is not good, but what would have caused this and how much is it going to hurt my wallet.

Re: now what
oil PRESSURE was low, not oil level, which meant the oil pump died. The engine probably seized up and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. www.car-part.com has salvage engines for around $1000

Thanks for the link, I am hoping I have the 7 year 70K powertrain warranty on it. It has 69,400 right now. Jim |

Re: now what
You are still in the mileage frame for the warranty so it should cover. Check to make sure there wasn't a recall on this particular vehicle as they had a recall on certain engines on the 02 Libertys.

Re: now what
What recall is that? The only one I know of that has anything to do with an engine in a liberty has to do with the valve cover studs poking into the alternator wiring.

Re: now what
Sorry it wasn't a recall but TSB 03010 dated April 24, 2003 regarding the possibility of scored crankshafts in certain 3.7 engines. This was for the 03 Libertys. If you go to the nhtsa.dot.gov website it will give more detail. Sorry I originally thought it was for the 02's.

Re: now what
I can't find any info on that bulletin. That isn't a good number for a chrysler tsb.I saw that on the nhtsa site but I can access chryslers and nothing comes up.I'm just kind of curious about that because I work at a jeep dealer and this is the first time I have heard anything about this.

That's as good as it gets for me. I read it on the Nhtsa site and that is the number they have posted. Sorry I don't have any more informations.
