Can anyone tell me what a fair price is for a transmission rebuild, would it be cheaper to buy a new one. I am getting a wide range of prices here. I have metal shards in my fluid and price really matters right now. Just paid this off last month, I don't want to give it up now.
THANKS!!! |

Re: 97 4x4
A Jasper rebuild should run about $1500 to $1800 dollars. Since you have metal shards in the system, Jasper will require an external cooler be added and eliminate the one in the radiator, this is for your warranty.
I cannot comment on the labor since I don't know where you live. However, you can figure on 6 hours all told if in a properly equipped shop. |

thats not that long....one shop told me 5 days. I just can't be without it for that long. I just had to have the water pump replaced today and I need a lot of welding done. So rebuilding is cheaper than a new one I guess. I'm in South Carolina, I'm not sure what that means about labor costs.
Thanks for the info. |

Re: 97 4x4
Hold on, what I was talking about is an R&R. Not pulling and rebuilding the one that comes out. And remember, that 5 days could be due to scheduling when they could get it in the shop or it could be the pulling out, rebuilding and reinstalling.
