swapping exhaust system from sunfire
I have a 2003 cavalier 2.2 liter. I was wondering if it is possible to swap the exhaust off of a sunfire GT with a duel exhaust? And if so would i have to make any other changes? Thanks

Re: swapping exhaust system from sunfire
Sunfires, nor Cavys, nor any 4 cylinders I know of are true duals.
And I dont see why it would be a problem. Just make sure to get an OEM replacement, not a used system.

wasn't paying attention to whether it was four or six cylinder. if it is off a four cylinder then yes it will fit

thanks for the help. Although i realize that it is not a true deul exhaust on the sunfire....it would still provide a performance boost over the stock cavalier ls exhaust correct??

Re: swapping exhaust system from sunfire
Sunfire dual system will give little or actually no gain at all over your stock system. They're rated at the same horsepower as Cavaliers. If you really want to get technical, it could hurt you, from the extra weight. Duals are for looks on a 4 cylinder. Not that there is anything wrong with that (I like the dual look myself), you just need to be aware of what you're getting.

Thanks KJ. Ok how about going another route then. If i were to put a cold air intake in, and some other basics like plugs, and air filter. What kind of gain would i be looking at in horsepower? Sorry for the Dumb questions, but im a rookie at this kind of stuff....thanks for all the help guys!!

Your stock plugs are fine, especially on a car as new as yours. When its time to replace them, its best to stick with the stock AC Delcos, unless you've done some kind of major work like boosting. A cold air intake can give you minor gains. Things like cold air and exhaust give minor gains by themselves, but when you combine them the help out more. Also, lets say for example that cold air and exhaust would give you a 10 horsepower gain on your stock engine. If you had an engine that was really built (turbo'd or whatever) intake and exhaust would give you an even bigger gain over stock, but no one runs stock exhaust and intake on a turbo'd car anyway.
Thats about all I can really tell you for now, there are lots of people much more knowledgeable about these cars than me and they can probably tell more tips and tricks. A good place to go is www.j-body.org but don't post a which exhaust question, it just makes everyone mad there. I'd go there and search the topics you're interested in.

Re: swapping exhaust system from sunfire
If you want power, your going to get noise. Simple as that. Frankly, if you want it quieter, invest in a good resonator.
And I would say 15hp tops from exhaust and CAI.

Re: swapping exhaust system from sunfire
Oh yeah, no doubt. 15 hp might even be a generous estimate on an otherwise stock Cavalier 4 banger (whether it be 2.2 OHV, TwinCam or Ecotec).

Re: swapping exhaust system from sunfire
some of the older quad 4's had true dual exhaust but it was only on there high output quads like the w41
interesting stuff i wonder if you could convert a w41 header over to the 2.4.... |
