what are the signs of a wheel bearing going bad and how do you check if its going bad?

theyre could be a humming. what you can do is jack up the tire you think its comming from. then put your hands and the 12 oclock and 6 oclock positions and wiggle it up and down. if theres play..then you either need a new bearing or you need to repack em. what i mean by play is if theres any movement at all up and down. it might feel like a little popping.
