odd sound?

my buddys got a 4th gen lude, and it just started making an odd noise. when its in drive, it whines while driving. when its in park it doesnt whine but theres a clicking noise coming from what sounds like right below the cam gears. its not the valves, but it sounds similar to when you need a valve adjustment. any ideas?
