Adding auto-dim rearview mirror

I have a 2002 Trailblazer LS and would like to install an auto dimming rear rear view mirror with compass and outside temp display. I have been told that that the vehicle may come pre-wired for adding the mirror and the plug is behind the headliner. Also that the temp sensor may be already installed by the factory under the radiator. Does anyone know if this is correct and how do I locate the plug, does the headliner drop down so that I can get to the plug without my destroying the interior.

If I have to run wiring to the fuse panel (I ran a wire to hardwire my radar detector) is there anything special I need to know. Thanks

You may email me with the ans: [email protected]

I just bought a new 2005 Isuzu Ascender (same as a TB) -- I have the same question? Can it be as simple as just unplugging the original mirror and plugging in the new one?

Thank you in advance...

John

Re: Adding auto-dim rearview mirror

bump for this... my bro has a ascender and has the garage door opener/sunglass holder but would like to know this too..

he was told that even though he doesnt have the dvd option that the wires are up there... so does this make true for this part?

also anyone have any pics or websites for different types?
I havent seen the compass/temp one yet..

my 6 year old learned his directions and temperatures from it.. but now it is gone and we got another kid on the way.. would be nice..

plus if I am lost I know the general direction I need to go...

Re: Adding auto-dim rearview mirror

To everyone adding options to these trucks....

There is NO wiring available for options you do not have. GM finally got smart (?) and only includes the wiring for the options that are factory installed. What a pain!

In any case, I have added loads of options to my truck, one of which was the rearview mirror w/temp&compass. There was no wiring in the headliner for it. HOWEVER...... there was switched power and a ground there for the homelink setup in the overhead console. I was able to tap into that for power, but still had to run a feed and return to an underhood temp sender.
