Alternator Wiring

'93 Pontiac Sunbird - 6 cyl.

I know that this is the Sunfire forem, however, this is the closest I could come. This should be a generic question.

The power wire (Red) on the alternator, does it go directly to the battery, or does it go through something else, like a fuse, circuit breaker etc.?

The alternator field plug has two wires. What are there functions (just +12 volts & ground, or something else?
