Broken Needle

I tried to install indiglos on my 95 civic dx and I broke a needle does anyone know how to fix it, or where to buy one. If I do buy do I have to buy the whole gauge console, and if i do can the mile reading thing be exchanged to the new one. Any suggestions?

Re: Broken Needle

ok i had this problem with my 99 civic. i had to source the whole new cluster at a local junk yard but it is possible to remove needles and stuff from an existing cluster and just transfer them. although the screws are a pain in the butt and you risk breaking the needles agin trying to screw them in. i would suggest buying a need guage cluster from a local junk yard and using a eye glass screw driver to advance the odometer to where you need it. i had to go through these woes also it may be a little costly but it'll save you time and frustration. just as a quick question which needle did you break while installing . i broke the fuel and water temp ones and found out you just point the needles up to slide the guages on.good luck

Re: Broken Needle

Hi thanks for the reply. The broke the fuel needle. Buying the whole cluster is not the problem the thing is the different milage on the odometer. If I get a new one wouldn't it brake if I try to advance the odometer? that's my main concern.

hey man i've had the same problem as u all... lucky 4 u i did my research... if u've broken either the temp gauge, tach, or fuel gauge... u DO NOT have to replace your whole cluster! i have a VERy detailed tutorial as how to go about replacing a single oem gauge...

tutorial: http://www.rideatl.com/modules.php?n...viewtopic&t=16

it says for accords but it's the same for most hondas, like civics and preludes...

i broke my temp gauge and replaced it for $26 total :P

i searched for mine on ebay... i got a 97 accord cluster for an automatic... i also needed the temp gauge... so i bought a cluster with a broken speedometer/odometer and a broken fuel gauge... the only thing that worked was the tach and the temp gauge so i saved a lot of money there... i got it for $26 shipped

glad to be of service

hell when i bought my first hatchback it had 189,000 miles on it, but then i broke the calibration putting in my indiglos and got a new cluster with only 104k miles, i sold that car as if it really only had 104k miles

if they check the carfax report they might figure it out, except that I did all the work myself so nobody had my m ileage documented.
AND on your pink slip you have the option of checking a box in the middle of the page that says 'odometer reading is not actual mileage/innacurate'. at least in california we do

Re: Broken Needle

I bet you all used a flat head screwdriver to remove the needles huh? me to and i fu*ked it up aswell. i find the best way to do it is to put a piece of string around the needle and and pull it straight of evenly. as long as you keep the needle straight the it wont break,.,,. works every time,.,.,.,.,
