Question battery post came out

i have a bit of a problem. the other day my car would not start, so i checked the battery, only to find that it was possibly leaking. so proceeded to disconnect the battery cables, but the positive battery post came out with the cable(i have the original side mounted post ac delco battery) and yes it was leaking. i got the battery out, but the battery cable will not come out of the post. its almost like they have welded themselves together. ive tried just about everyting to remove it. my last resort is to replace the battery cable, ive already traced the cables and it looks like a horendous job. does anyone have any suggestions. they are greatly appreciated.

thank you, faleigh

Re: battery post came out

This sounds retarted but did you try smacking the post with a screwdriver and hammer to sort of knock the post lose?

I had a similar issue with my positve battery terminal leaking. The warranty covered the replacement of the battery as well as teh cables. Is this the original battery? If so, it's one of those piece of crap Delco Freedom batteries...many people with GM vehicles have problems with these batteries.

Re: battery post came out

I had the exact same problem with my battery.
Jeremy is right about "smacking" it.
You could also buy a new battery cable terminal from walmart or something and remove the old terminal and replace it with the new on fairly easily. They're pretty inexpensive.

no, i did not consider smacking it with a screwdriver. will that really work, i mean, the screw for the cable is actually still screwed into the piece of metal that is supposed to hold it into the battery, but of course no longer does. yes this is the original battery, i have heard nothing but bad about them. as for replacing the terminal, where does it disconnect??? there is this huge plastic thing covering mine. ive looked, but found no way to remove it. i guess ill just have to grin and bear it and replace the cables, sounds simple, but looks very difficult.
thanks for the help, im going to get my screwdriver now. faleigh

Re: battery post came out

If you can't remove the post from the terminal by loosening the corrosion somehow (smacking it), you could just cut the battery cable right up next to the terminal.
Make sure there is enough wire to attach to a new terminal (you may need to cut away some of the cable casing to get enough wire).
