LED's

Could someone tell me how to install one LED in lets say my vent or glovebox. I dont have the slightest clue how to wire up or install a LED but i want to do it myself so if anyone knows what tools I would need to install the LEDs.

check out superbrightleds.com. they have led's you can just plug right in. i think the bulb is 194. check out grandamgt.com. you can search for the answer there as well.

yeah if ur lucky they might make an LED to just plug right in to where the previous bulb was.

dude is pretty easy it ether gonna be 2-3 wires iam not gonna go nuts trying to right it out now if your still reading this post resond and ill tell you what you can do may be even set you up wit some pics if you let me know how you want to do it
do you want to replace a light with a led
or do you want to put a led where there wasint one befor do you want it to go on when the cars on or do you want to hit a switch to turn it on
hey and led in the vents thats not a bad idea bet that look pretty cool

if you put them in place of a regular bulb i guarantee youll blow them. An LED only needs like 1.5 volts. And most of the bulbs in your car are more than that. Plus the amperage will be way to high and that'll make em blow as well. So you have to get a resistor and add that into the circut, to give you barely any amperage, and low voltage. If you have a 12v supply going to your LED i suggest like a 500 Ohm resistor....Sorry for my rambling..i just thought id tell you this before you bought LED's and blew them

thats true but if you buy leds that you like
say... some stupid plug in ones that plug in to the 12volt lighter outlet you can usaly cut the wires and wire them in any where
it just depends on how good you want it to look the better the looks the more time your gonna have to spen makeing it blind in or disaper
but the resistor would be better because you can put 1 bulb anywhere but if you have no clue what your doing stick to store bought crap and try hard to mod it

Yea those ones you can do that with, but i was just saying, if he goes to like radio shack and just buys LED's then hes gunna blow em. But yea id agree with ya if you have no electrical knowledge then just buy the store bought cig lighter ones.

thats not entirely true. I replaced my originnal tail lights with LED's about 3 months ago. I havent blown any of them, however, it took me forever to figure out how to get them all to work at the same time because of the difference in volts...but never a blown bulb

Those arent single bulb LED's. Those have multiple bulbs. Im talking about if like goes into the dash, and tries to replace any of those lights, or any other single bulb light, hes gunna blow em. Ill bet those on that site have a built in resistor. With your tail lights you used the same type blubs as on that site right? If so well then you didnt have to add a resistor or any of that b/s. But i went through and tried to/replaced my dash lights, indicator lights, power door locks lights, there all LED's now. But they were single bulb, so i had to put a resistor in there, and i found that out the hard way. By blowing a few.

Also im not saying you cant use the ones off that site. Im just saying if you go to like radio shack or someplace and buy single bulb LED's and when you install them, if you have more than like 1.5V then theyll blow.

but the first Q was not plug and play tail lights it was
if he wanted something dif like in his vents

im not sure if the single led wedge bulbs on the site have the resistors built in or not. i didnt see anything that said that. but i know if you wire more than one in a series you usually dont need a resistor so maybe thats how the mulitple one works. but yeah for sure, if your working with single led's you need resistors. and if you were putting led's in your headlights or tailights youll need resistors for some as well. and if you want to put leds in your vents what you can do is take off the fuse panels on the sides drill a hole into the vents and like superglue an led or two in there. also you can get into the middle ones by taking out the stereo and do the same thing there. youll need to know how to solder and what "size" resistors to use. youll need to find an led calculator. i cant find the link i had but i think if you search you can find it. http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showt...highlight=leds that will help you with headlights and tails and other stuff. hope that helps answer the origanal question.

An LED is a Light Emiting Diode, all diodes require around 1.5V to work. Any more theyll blow, any less they wont work. All you really gotta do is basically if you have 12V feeding a LED put around a 470-500 Ohm resistor in series in the circut and youll be fine. That way most of your voltage is lost through the resistor, and your amps are miniscule. With the wiring LED's in series, technically that does increase resistance, but an LED has very little resistance, so im really not sure how they work. They must have a built in resistor someplace. But yea RichG is right if you find an LED calculator, you will be better off. Hope this may help you.

Interior led kits are cheap and should always be simple to install. Try findind a kit with a controll box the controll box should controll the power output straight from the battery. How much do the wire yourself kits cost?
