Re: Huh? is this a real car?

Yes.... Ruf is a real company, and yes the RGT is a real model... Alois Ruf owns the company, started by his father I believe, and specializes in tuning Porsches. If the "regular" 996 Turbo isn't enough for you, you can get him to do some amazing things with it. Google it, and I'm sure you will come up with something to learn more.

Re: Huh? is this a real car?

Bingo, but not as closely affiliated as Shelby has been to Ford. Ruf, Gemballa, 9FF, ninemeister, techart, S-CAR-GO, just a few of the more serious Porsche tuners.

RUF is affiliated with Porsche, they do basically start with aPorsche and tune it to there own specs, much like Shelby. However, they have thier cars have VIN number different from Porsches from the German Gov, and they are recognized as a seperate automobile manufacturer.

If you have a Porsche and want more, RUF can modify it to RUF specs a lot of the time, though they sometimes can't modifiy it exactly to RUF specs as if you bout a new one.

You buy a stock Porsche, and then are for some reason unfufilled with the power, performance, etc. Then you give it to them for a week or two, and many G's later you have a RUF, not a Porsche. Think of any RUF as a Porsche on steriods.

While this is one way to go about it, it is not the only way. The method you mention is "converting a Porsche to RUF specs." However, they do say that in some cases they can't fully convert a Porsche to RUF specs when you go about it this way.

The other method is to buy a RUF straight up, from RUF. Not buy a Porsche and convert is, but just buy a RUF to begin with (yes, you can just buy a RUF, though I'm not sure from were over here in N.A.). RUF has there own VIN number seperate from Porsche and is recognized by the German government as their own independant automobile manufacturer. One of the more ingreting RUF's mixing the Boxter Chassis with the 911 Carrera motor. It gives the power of the Carrera and the Handling of the Boxter. It's either the RUF 3400 or 3600 I believe.

Ahh, okay. It's all good. I wasn't sure, so I decided I'd type that to clear it up just in case.

Re: Huh? is this a real car?

RUF created the Yellowbird that famously made its way around the Nurburgring in a little over 8 minutes. There is a good video of it all over the internet.
