Will 18s drain torque?

I am getting new tires, so I figured the ones that came stock are tiny....anyways, I was thinking of 235/40/18. I am worried about the extra size throwing off the speedometer and turning my Eclipse into a pig off the line.

Thanks

-Logan

What does the speedometer being thrown off have to do with the cars actually performance? And if you get 18's but they are light racing rims that are actually lighter then your other ones then it might help a little its all about the weight. Remember a roating mass is about 10 times heavier simple physics.

Re: Will 18s drain torque?

not really. i actualy felt a bit faster going from the stockers to 18x8's. bigger patch mabey? or just i wanted to feel faster... it definitly looked faster... lol

the biggest thing is the wall size. if you have ever seen the tires on drag cars in slow-mo and you can see the rotation of the outside of the tire compared to the rim you know what i mean. smaller sidewalls mean less 'give' meaning you may spin the tires a bit more easy.

as for the speedo, it may be a bit off, but not enough to cause concern. if you are getting a speeding ticket, you were obliviously over the limit by more that 10-15mph
