Revving Your Engine

Is it safe to rev your engine to the red line? Will this do any harm either now or in like 5 years?

ummm the higher you rev your engine the faster it is going to wear down, yes and no on in 5 years or not how often you do it is how fast it will happen...its like smoking, you take 5 min off your cars life instead

Re: Revving Your Engine

Carefull reving too high and trying to peel out....I did it this morning in my college parking lot and it created tire hop and put 2 big cracks in my dashboard due to the amount of engine bouncing!!!

Re: Revving Your Engine

once i hit 3500 peelin' like that, it just squeels, no hop....i'm on stock tires though... but yes....be VERY careful, i wouldn't recommend going over 2000 to start racing or driving daily after that, its all about fair game

Re: Revving Your Engine

i used to launch at 4k, and its hell on the tires, you get no traction, becuase the top of the torque curve is so close to the top of the hp (1500rpm away) it doesn't work, as soon as ur past 2k rpm in first gear it hauls, so thats where you launch

While reving in general is bad, the REAL trouble you get into is called dry revs. This is when the car is in neutral and you rev to redline. There is not a whole lot of damage done when the engine is in gear, so long as you dont do it to excess. Once in a while its good to get those cobwebs out, and smoke those pesky hondas with the fart cans. There is however a solution to the engine bouncing. RIPP mods used to make a part called like an engine mount wheel, or trans mount. It was an aftermarket replacement for the stock wheel used to hold the engine on the car, located just under the radiator...you can see it. It, instead of being hollow like stock, had a core that was supposed to not allow the motor to hop back and forth. Your trans takes most of the damage with wheel hopping, and could crack the case and strip gears. You could also probably look at upgraded suspension...that would probably lessen the wheel hop.
