Electrical problems are p!$$!ng me off

I have a couple of electrical problems that are starting to annoy me. The first one is my rear driver side power window works at times and doesn't at other times. Once and a while I get a door open that no mater how hard I slam the doors doesn't go away. Since it doesn't tell me which door it sees open, I don't really know which latch to look at. Finally I have windshield wipers that only go at one speed fromthe second setting to the fast setting. This problem I am susspecting the wiper module, but I'd like to know for sure if anyone has ever had this problem and managed to fix it.

Any input on tricks, ideas or solutions to these problems would be greatly appreciated.

Denis

denisb;

I have a 95 Taurus wagon and every so often I would get the "door ajar" and found that it was the rear hatch that was opened.
The lever next to the drivers seat is very "Touchie". I guess my pant leg was lifting it up.

Sorry can't help with your other problems.

Re: Electrical problems are p!$$!ng me off

I have a 96 tarus and I have had the door ajar issue. It comes an goes. I have traced the problem to the driver side rear door. The problem went away some time ago, probably last spring. It may be a cold weather problem, so it may be about to come back? The real problem is that my interior lights stay on because the "brain" thinks a door is open. I have disconnected the battery overnight and that clears it. A mechanic suggested that I spray contact cleaner on the "door ajar switch".

You should be able to track down the problem door by paying attention to the door that was last opened before the problem started.

On the window issue: Will the Drivers switch operate the window or will the local switch operate it? If one will then the issue is a switch. If neither will then the problem is either a short or a motor issue. Do you have a Haynes manual on the car? Haynes will have a wiring diagram that will help you track down the problem. I had a similar problem with my blower motor and the problem turned out to be a short in a relay. The relay was located inside the engine compartment fuse box and easily replaced. If I had your problem then the first thing I would do is check to see if the circuit includes a relay.

The door ajar issue has been a common problem for years with the Tauruses. The solution that seems to work well is to spray the key holes with some WD-40.

The random rear window problem is one that I am familiar with. I have removed the motor and then taken it apart to lightly sand the commutator with emory paper. If you do not want to take it apart, then just rotate the shaft a bit. Check if this clears up the problem by trying it before you put the motor back in place. I have determined that there must be a slight build-up of oxide or such on the commutator that increases the resistance enough to prevent the motor from working. I have now gotten into the habit of using all my windows several times a week to keep this from happening.

Thanks for the input guys, I will probably go out and buy a Haynes or Chilton manual.

Denis,
I have a 97 with the same door switch problem.
With help form this forum & WD-40 it's fixed.
Only I sprayed WD-40 into the door latches and got immediate results.
