D50 Pickup Fuel Pump??

I'm looking at buying a 87 D50 and I think it has a bad fuel pump. I only looked at it for a few minutes but I think the fuel pump is bad. It has good spark but will not fire. I had a friend pour a little gas in as I turned the key and it turned over right away. I was thinking the fuel pump was in the tank but I called to get a price for one and they said it is mechanical and on the block. Any info would be appreciated on where the fuel pump actually is.

Thx,
CB

Re: D50 Pickup Fuel Pump??

With an 87 it may very well be on the block, but I'm not really sure. The newer one's are in the tank. It shouldn't be hard to find if it is on the block.

Re: D50 Pickup Fuel Pump??

I have an '88 D100, and replaced the pump recently. The whole setup was inside the tank, and quite a pain to get to, as there is very little rubber hose to work with. Also, if you're looking for cheap parts, i.e. junkyard parks, I've had luck with the following national site: http://www.car-part.com/

Re: D50 Pickup Fuel Pump??

Does anyone know for sure where the thing is? I'mpretty sure I'm going to buy this truck and I want to go ahead and get the fuel pump ordered but I don't trust Adv. Auto enough to order the mechanical one, I still think its in the tank.

Definite answer Pleazzzzzzz.

Re: D50 Pickup Fuel Pump??

Take a look at it. The fuel line will run from the tank, along the frame and up to the engine. If it's a mechanical pump, you'll see it, usually (on a V8 anyway) bolted to the side of the block. Does this truck have fuel injection or a carburetor? If FI, probably in the tank; if carb, then likely on the block.

Re: D50 Pickup Fuel Pump??

I'm not sure whether it is FI or carb, I should have taken some more time to look at it. I was on my way to go bowhunting and didn't have much time. I was hoping someone here would know for sure and be able to tell me.
