code p0141

finally i went to autozone to check the CEL of my ESI, they told me that the problem was the oxigen sensor (P0141) but the guy said something about first socket or something like that, someone know which one is the o2 sensor "1 socket", and how much it will cost to me? cause i almost know nothing about the n/a engine so please help me. thanks.

Re: code p0141

Are you sure he didn't say "bank 1"? If he did indeed say "1 socket" I don't have any clue what he ment.

Re: code p0141

No biggie, bank 1 just lets you know where the o2 sensor is located. Typically 4 bangers only have one bank, V motors have 2. Anyway, sounds like you need a new o2 sensor. Do you have access to a logger to see if the voltage is cycling? As far as cost, I think they are around $100. Just make sure you get an OEM sensor. Good luck.

Re: code p0141

Looks to me like that cose is for bank 1 (we only have one as explained above) sensor 2. That would be the post cat sensor. Do you still have a cat?

Hi,

I got a similar problem on my 96 GS Spyder. I got a Check Engine sign a few days ago and checked with a machine what code it will return. It returned P0420 - Catalyst Efficiency Below threadhold. As far as I hear it is connected with problems of the o2 sensors and cat converter. I was wondering whether this message could show which one of these I need to change or I should open the car before knowing. The service I went to asks for 600 for cat converter change and I could find o2 sensors from bosh for 80 bucks each so o2 sensors should be easy to change but cat converter is a bit over my budget. Do you think changing just the front and rear sensors will fix the problem (or do you know where I could find a cat converter for less than 600?)

Re: code p0141

That code (catalyst system efficiency below threshhold (bank 1)) is almost alwyas the cat, or lack of one. EIther way, you cxan get a cat from suumit for ~100 bucks and have flanges welded on to it. Though they may be too big for your exhaust, you'll have to look into it. Also, how many miles oare on the car? I belive the dealer has to cover emissions components for a LONG time, at least 100k miles.

Hi,

So does this mean that the o2 sensors might be ok? My car is on 80K miles. Not much for a 96 but still it hasn't been taken care much for so I guess this might be the problem. What is suumit btw? is it a store? I tried eBay and the cat converters there are 30 bucks but they are all for test and off-road performance only.
