2.2 engine swap
i took a 2.2 out of a 1996 cavalier that was knocking but ran and put a 1997 cavalier 2.2 in and now im not getting any spark to the plugs. the only thing i changed was the crank sensor because the 97 had two wires and the 96 had three and i never changed the oil pan which the 96 had a oil level sensor in pan. does anyone know if i have to change anything else, cant figure out why no spark to plugs.
thanks |

Re: 2.2 engine swap
did you try the ignition module/coil packs from the old engine on the new one?

Re: 2.2 engine swap
i'm having the same problem, swapped 97 cavalier
engine for 96 but no fire to the plugs. did u have to replace the emc also? we can't reach the crank sensor, it is blocked by the wheel well, are we looking in the right spot for it? |

i did not change the ecm, the crankcase sensor on the 97 engine would not plug in to the wireing on the 96 so i took the sensor out of the 96 and put in the 97 and i did not get any spark to the plugs,so i put the 97 sensor back in and took the plug from the 97 and wired it in the 96.the sensor is located around the coil pack.
