What do you guys think?

This is a model of a tamiya golf, the thing is its a v5 golf. I guess they make them in europe and maybe in japan. This is similar to my car except the rims and its a two door. I plan on putting on a abt grill on it next week and pst some pics of it, maybe make a tutorial. Also what do you guys think about the OZ superleggers gunmetal with chrome lip on a silver stone grey gti? Well here are the pics

Re: What do you guys think?

its a plastic model kit, probably around 50 pieces that you have to glue and paint, exhuast is made out of aluminum tubing, different wheels were used, custom sponser decals

they sell v5s in europe (i'd love to get one...). the exhaust looks like a fartcan and hence, doesn't belong. anyway, abt grill = money!! i love them. anyway as for the rims, good luck with getting superleggera's in gunmetal with a chrome lip.

first off, superleggeras are pretty expensive, and since they dont come with any lip, you'll have to machine those on, which is very expensive as well. on top of that, those machined lips are gonna be weaker than the OZs, since superleggeras are pretty strong. the lips will also add weight to your otherwise light wheels. in essence, buying superleggeras and machining lips on them will look kinda queer and negate every reason why you want a superleggera wheel in the first place.

if you thought you can just paint the outer rim of the wheel chrome or have it machined like that, then that'll look very.. disturbing. superleggeras have no dish/lip to start with, so it'd be like painting a chrome circle around the rim of your stock wheels.

also, if you thought the rims on your model were superleggeras, they're not. they may be superturismos, but since they are 15-spoke (yes i counted lol), they are most likely aristos, found on 20ae cars and the r32. and those dont have a lip either...

actually doing a double take on those rims, i cant really tell what they are. 15-spoke = aristos, but a machined inner lip with thinner spokes = superturismos. but then turismos have 16-spokes...

sorry for the long post (again)

Re: What do you guys think?

Okay whow....hmmmm you must know your wheels pretty good buddy, first off the wheels are off a mitsu lancer, never said anything about them being supperleggras!!!! Please read before replying. Second there will be no machining or painting going on with my hopefully new supperleggras. Here have a CLOSE look
http://www.atlastimports.com/browseproducts/Index.html We call this swapping or changing the wheels! Third i think they'll look good on my car and don't give a fuck if you think they look queer.

... calm down buddy. i thought you were talking bout the original superleggeras, not the superleggera IIIs. i just think the original superleggeras dont have enough of a lip to warrant the lip being polished or what not. the rest of my previous post was me explaining myself and i assumed that you thought the wheels you had on your rc car were OZs (i dunno, you may have bought the car with the wheels already and didn't know what they were). no need to shout obscenities and act immature now.

Re: What do you guys think?

okay i'm calm now, its not a rc car its a model kit, the wheels on the model came from a mitsu lancer, which i thought were ozs cause lancers come with ozs,but if they're not ozs oh well. I basically tried to make the model look like a 20thae. Got a little offended but oh well, sorry ed.

anyway, as for your question on how the wheels may look... wasn't able to find pics of gunmetal superleggera IIIs (they are kinda rare) but found pics of some silverstones with gunmetal rims with a polished lip. and the one that looks like an r32 is actually a european silverstone r28

dunno why it has a NA rear bumper tho...

Re: What do you guys think?

you know what

I am trying to find a MK4 2-door GTI model, a smaller one, like hot wheel size or something, or maybe bigger, doesn't matter

I wanna find one to stick on my car's dash just for the hell of it, but I can't find any, AT ALL

I found one on ebay, it is a key chain but it's like 20$, screw that

I go to many model stores to try and find it, but they have none, they have mostly hondas, toyotas and such, no GTIs (many beetles though)

I think GTIs are underrated in this sport compact scene, it's a great compact, and in fact it's better than plenty out there, but lacks the tons of respect it deserves

Re: What do you guys think?

i know gti's are underrated... im perfectly happy for that. overrated cars usually conjure up stereotypes and everyone would start to want one as well (not cuz of the stereotype, but the fact that its not underrated). this is a big reason why i bought vw
