How else would the goverment get their money? Poeple like their cities to be crime free, great roads, clean parks, etc. But all that shit doesn't come free.

yes but other countries manage it with less than 85% and it is reported that governement tax revenues are up. Most of it is spent on housing Immigrants from other countries whose country was bombed and then they won't go back. I'm not being ignorant or anything but i really think that the state of England is worse than it was even with a high TAX on petrol - I think they should make it more like america that way it would be cheaper and better place to attract foreign investment

in the long run greater foreign investment and less transport costs would lower the cost of goods and bring down proces whilst increasing public spending

Anyway back on the topic here in Poland (which is way more poor country than UK) 80% of gas (or like the brits say petrol) are taxes and $hit , not actually anything that has anything to do with oil and it's cost... But f.e in germany 100% of this tax goes to keep the roads in good condition (like their autobahns) , and here in Poland 30% goes for the roads and the rest lands in pockets of politicans . That's bad .
