Replacing 3.8L in a 95

I was wondering what other models and years of ford vehicles carried this engine that would fit in a windstar. I have to replace mine, or replace the crank and everything involved with that(Yea, fun). I heard from a mechanic friend of mine that the 3.0L was a much more reliable engine, is that true? Would a 3.8L tranny be adaptable to a 3.0L engine or would I need to replace both to convert it over?

I can not offer any information on this...except that you might find some useful input from a few FORD tech's at...

http://www.flatratetech.com/

I would expect that some of the computer stuff and possibly the air intake would need to be compatible....in addition to the mechanicals (motor mounts, etc).
