90 suspension problem???

When driving down the highway at a good 65, my cars steering seems to go EVERYWHERE..
The car will be driving strait, and the steering wheel will travel all over.. And if I’m coming to a stop, LOOK OUT, I’m all over the place.. gotta use both hands to barely keep it on the road.. What the hell is that??

Do I just need an alignment or something???????

It has no power steering, and is stock suspension. w/ 17" rims

Re: Re: 90 suspension problem???

my brothers maxima done somthing exactly like that,
he would be driving & the steering wheel would go from one side to another, back & forth, then quit,
he was changing his spindel & got the alignment off,so his steering wheel(with the wheels aiming straight) was really off from being centered,
he got an alignment & it fixed the problem,
if that sounds simiular to what its doing, that may be it.

Why? Unless you have little chicken bones for arms it's no big deal. Oh, and having upper front strut tower braces helps steering.

DJHyperXK2004 - I would get that problem fixed quick... it does sound pretty dangerous.

would one of those 4 piece front, back, top, bottom brace kits from E-bay help?? there only like 45 bucks???

BUT MY DAM MECHANIC QUIT HIS JOB,
Now I don’t get hooked up at "Monroe" anymore... now I have no idea who’s going to install the stuff I buy anymore, like that strut kit, and my new springs and KYB's....

Re: 90 suspension problem???

I think any upper strut tower brace will improve the ease of steering.

Do it yourself. Makes you feel good about yourself, and its never fun to be depended on others to wrench on your car.

This is very true. In my case, I rely on a friend for the use of his parent's garage and some power tools. Unfortunately, I can't always rely on him for that so usually I'm out there under my car in the backyard wrenching away hoping my little floor jack and stock scissor jack don't give way. It sucks too cuz I have to change my oil soon again.

STRUT AND SWAY BARS ARE TO HELP AND CONTROL TIGHT TURNS BY HOLDING THE CHASSIS TOGETHER. I DONT THINK THEY HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR LOSING CONTROL. IF THE CAR TURNS WHILE BRAKING CHECK YOUR BRAKES. P.S. TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC

Re: 90 suspension problem???

sounds to me like your caster is off. if the car easily wants to follow whatever bump you hit in the road, and wanders, its probably that. first thing to check (because nearly all of the 4Gs have this problem) is the radius rods coming loose from the front crossmember. if you look under your car, near your radiator, you will see the two radius rods going into the front crossmember (aka subframe). they go through it and to the front of the car, and are fastened with two huge nuts. 19mm i believe. see if those are loose. if you can tighten them at all, do that. then come back and post results
